  KUWAA MISSION

Bethany Lutheran Church has started a mission to the Kuwaa people in Liberia. Rev. Dr. Daniel Jensen Seyenkulo and Rev. Dr. Richard B. Thompson are the co-chairpersons for this mission, with Rev. Chris Kowula being the chairperson in Liberia. There is a dire need to help the Kuwaao.
In the recent past, Liberia suffered a 14-year civil war. Now there is a fairly stable peace there. We want to be able to help the Kuwaao help themselves - to be able to once again stand on their own feet. All their homes in the chiefdom were destroyed along with any public buildings. The farms and food supplies plundered or burnt. 50% of the people died during those years, suffering inhumanities from the different rebel groups that occupied their chiefdom.
For now we are in need of one or more laptop computers, printers, and accessories. We need these so that we can have reliable communications with Pastor Chris. We also need a decent digital camera, compatible with the computer and printer. If you want to donate one or more of these items or just something toward purchasing these items towards this goal, we would appreciate you so doing. Most of all we need your prayers. Please pray for the Lord's direction and guidance. Pray that God would touch people's hearts to help us help the Kuwaao help themselves. "With God all things are possible!"
If you can help, at this time, or want more information send correspondence to Rev. Dr. Thompson at:
revdrthompson@bellsouth.net , the mission net address, revdrthompson@aol.com , my personal net address, MAKE ALL DONATIONS OUT TO BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH - EARMARKED KUWAA MISSION. All gifts are tax deductible through Bethany Lutheran Church.

Yours in Christ, Rev. Dr. Richard Thompson.

Ablaze!

Ablaze!

Ablaze!® began as a vision of LCMS World Mission to involve every member of the LCMS, its partner church bodies, and partner mission agencies in one focused and concentrated effort to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with those who do not yet know Him. By joining together in this effort, not only would those who hear and receive the message of salvation in Christ be transformed by it and brought into the body of Christ, but our own church bodies, mission organizations and congregations would be strengthened as members grow in discipleship through mission involvement. Additionally, all our Lutheran resources would be strategically coordinated, so that more can be accomplished in mission to the glory and honor of our one, true God. It was the desire of LCMS World Mission to give this vision away—to ignite a spark that would become a mission movement of individuals, groups, congregations, etc., all committed to the goal of reaching 100 million unreached and uncommitted people with the Gospel by 2017, which is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Fan into Flame is a campaign to gather financial support for the Ablaze!® movement.  It is a critical step to fund the movement’s innovative projects and programs that share the Gospel with 100 million people.

Bethany has committed $50,000 of its Blessed to Be a Blessing Capital Campaign proceeds to Fan into Flame to help support the Ablaze!® movement.

East St. Tammany HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

It Starts with a Gift… It Leads to Lives Transformed by Christ

Right now, an estimated 2.3 million children have a mom or dad in prison. The number is huge – but so is the opportunity. Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. It seeks to transform the lives of these families and to reconcile them to their Heavenly Father and each other. In Matthew 18:5 Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.” There are children right in your community who are among the most at-risk children in the nation. Angel Tree provides an opportunity to connect with those families and begin ministering to them at Christmas and then continue through a variety of year-round ministry opportunities.
